001 // BACKSTORY.     Sally McKnight’s childhood was shaped by equal parts music and solitude. She grew up in a small, quiet home where she learned early on to find comfort in little things, rainy afternoons, old records playing softly in the background, the smell of incense, and long walks through the woods near her home. While other kids were drawn to bright colors and loud games, Sally was fascinated by moon phases, antique jewelry, black cats, and stories that made the ordinary world feel magical. Her mother encouraged that curiosity, sharing family traditions and teaching her that being connected to nature meant protecting it. Sally would help tend gardens, leave food out for stray animals, and collect small keepsakes from the outdoors, smooth stones, feathers, dried flowers, and fallen leaves. After her mother passed away at a young age, those traditions became even more important to her. They were a way to feel close to her while also giving Sally something steady to hold onto. after she passed away, her father took care of her and raised her. He became her main parent figure, supporting her love of music, nature, and her Wiccan heritage from her mother’s side even if he may not always understood. At school, Sally was often misunderstood. Her quietness made people assume she was unfriendly, and her interest in darker music and folklore made her stand out. Still, she found confidence through songwriting. She started keeping notebooks filled with lyrics, sketches of stage outfits, and ideas for a band that could turn being different into something powerful. By the time she began calling herself Thorn, she had learned that she did not need to be loud all the time to leave an impression.002 // THE HEX GIRLS.     Sally met Luna and Dusk during her teenage years, when she was still figuring out where she belonged. She had already started writing songs and teaching herself guitar, but most people at school only saw her as the quiet girl with dark clothes and an interest in strange stories. Music was the one place where she felt completely understood. She first noticed Luna and Dusk at a small local music event. Luna had a bold, theatrical energy that filled the room, while Dusk had a sharp sense of humor and an effortless confidence that made Sally curious. The three of them had different personalities, but they shared the same love for alternative music, gothic fashion, and refusing to fit into anyone else’s expectations. Their first jam session happened almost by accident. Sally brought a few lyrics she had been too nervous to show anyone, Luna began adding harmonies, and Dusk found a rhythm that made the song feel louder and stronger than Sally had imagined. By the end of the night, they knew they had something special. They started meeting after school to practice in garages, basements, and anywhere they could make noise without being chased out. Their music became a mix of rock, dark melodies, theatrical lyrics, and messages about nature and being proud of who you are. When they finally decided to form a band, Sally chose the name Thorn, a name that represented beauty, strength, and the ability to protect herself.
